New São Paulo Mayor Names Cabinet Members Connected to Scandals

On January 3, 2013, R7 reported that Fernando Haddad, São Paulo’s newly elected mayor, named two men to his staff connected to corruption at the state and federal levels. Oswaldo Napoleão Chaves, new chief of staff for Vice-Mayor Nadia Campeão, and Miguel del Busso, assistant to the state’s Sports Ministry, are under suspicion of corruption-related activity. Chaves was involved in a consulting firm that received $825,000 to support Sports Ministry projects in the past, and del Busso’s son-in-law’s construction company won contracts for eleven jobs in six towns, totalling $1.3 million, in 2010, when del Busso was the Sports Ministry’s chief of staff.
