–This morning at about 1:45, I awoke and started to walk toward the bathroom, when three men in black clothing, ski masks, rubber gloves, and a pistol opened the bedroom door and charged in. They held the pistol to my head, and the one fellow who spoke to me said that everything was okay, but we were being robbed and they only wanted money. While continually begging them to not hurt Karen or me,

I took them to where my wallet was, and they took the money out (somewhere between $100 to $200). They then took me back up to the bedroom and repeatedly asked for more money. I said that I wished I had more, but that is all I had, and even pointed to my iPad and said to take it. After a minute or so of this, they left without harming either of us, and I could hear them running down the driveway. They took my phone and Karen’s Kindle (it looks like a large smartphone), apparently to delay our calling the police.

About 10 minutes later, we finally came downstairs, where I found Karen’s phone, which they had missed, with a dead battery. I put it on to charge, and meanwhile called friend on Skype to ask that she call the police. Once the phone was charged a couple of percent, I called 911 to report the robbery.

The local police showed up about half an hour later, but there didn’t seem to be much they could do. I locked the bedroom door and managed to actually get some sleep, and when I went outside, I found the phone and Kindle discarded beside the driveway. We are supposed to go to the national police this morning to make a more formal report. I feel very fortunate that the robbers didn’t harm us. MINDO CLOUD FOREST FOUNDATION
