The Attorney General of Chihuahua, Carlos Manuel Salas, has revealed that there is a large portion of youths involved in criminal activity in the state. In the past 19 months of the current administration, 4,000 people have been imprisoned for various crimes, including extortion, kidnapping, and murder, according to El Mexicano. Of this number, 15% are women and 70% are individuals under the age of 25. 60% of perpetrators are 16-23 years old, and 60% of those who die from similar crimes also fall within this age group. Manuel Salas states that these young criminals come from a variety of backgrounds, both rich and poor. Many youths, regardless of background, become involved in the drug trade, where they find affection and security. This serves as a launching pad for future violent activities. Also during his administration, there have been 400 reports of missing women, of which 90% were 16-21 years old. Manuel Salas recommends improving channels of communication between youths and influential adults, such as parents and teachers, in order to prevent criminal involvement.Read Article
