Mexico: Communication from the Commission of Mediation (EAT)

Posted on May 15, 2012 • Filed under: Crime, Human Rights Latin America, Mexico

In recent days, held a judicial exhumation of a body that was thought might be missing one of the Popular Revolutionary Army. After a painful journey, in which participated members of the EAT, relatives of the victims, federal officials and Oaxaca, it was concluded that a track was unfounded. It was important for us involving Argentine forensic anthropologists who validated the results.

Our decision to participate in this proceeding was based on two factors: a) previous application, conditions and acceptance made by the relatives of Edmundo Reyes Amaya and Gabriel Alberto Cruz Sánchez and b) ensuring that external examiners would be that would both the exhumation as the ultimate expert. We thought it was useful to carry out the event, at least to rule ministerial lines of research. We have for this with the invaluable assistance of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
