Mexico: Club Owners in Querétaro Propose Breathalyzer Alternatives

Club and bar owners in the Mexican state of Querétaro are trying to find alternatives to the use of the Breathalyzer in order to avoid heavy fines to customers and visitors to the state, El Economista reports. The president of the Association of Bars and Clubs stated that establishments are willing to strengthen programs designed to avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and drunk driving, including paying for taxis for those customers who have had too much to drink. The association is concerned that the 11,000 peso ($930 USD) fine would drive away customers and that the legal system could be overrun with persons arrested for driving while intoxicated.
