Mexico City’s Institute of Administrative Inspection (INVEADF) inaugurated 100 new transportation inspectors, according to INVEADF’s website. The new inspectors will review over 200,000 vehicles (including 120,000 taxis) as part of a security initiative of Marcelo Ebrard, Head of Government of Mexico City. Of the 17,000 applicants for positions as inspectors with INVEADF, only 100 were selected. Ebrard claims that these recently selected inspectors were put through numerous tests and had to meet more requirements than he did for the position of Head of Government. One of the primary goals of the inspections is to eliminate unofficial or “pirated” bus stops and taxi stands. The inspectors will also check circulation permits, drivers licenses, insurance and vehicle alterations. Read article.
