Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil: Police Discover Arsenal on Cassava Plantation

Globo report on August 16, 2013 that the Civil, Military, and Federal Police located an arsenal on a cassava plantation in the city of São José do Pingador, Mato Grosso do Sul. The police discovered about three thousand ammunition of different calibers as well as firearms buried in a polyethylene drum to store narcotics. One of the drums showed cocaine paste residue. Police arrested a 35-year old man suspected to be the owner of the arsenal. He stated the weapons were buried for about eight months. Investigations reveal that if the items were sold in the black market, the owner would earn about R$400,000 through payment of drugs and weapons. The suspect faces up to six years in prison.
