Mar del Plata, Argentina: Gang Trafficking Women to Spain Disbanded

On June 20, 2013 Télam reported that authorities have broken up a gang suspected of trafficking women to Spain for the purposes of sexual exploitation. Last November, six women from Mar del Plata traveled to Spain while pursuing a lucrative job offer. Once there, they discovered the real nature of their situation but managed to escape and take refuge in the Argentinian consulate in Madrid. Police later raided the operation in Madrid, including car dealerships, notary public offices and accounting firms.

Police also placed on house arrest a woman from the criminal organization who is facing several charges of trafficking in persons for the purposes of sexual exploitation. Meanwhile, arrests warrants have been issued for two other members of the trafficking organization who are now fugitives. Read Article
