Limón, Costa Rica: 15 Year Old Girl Sexually Exploited With Parents’ Consent

On July 12, 2013 Alianza Por Tus Derechos reported that the National Child Welfare Board (PANI) has intervened in a case involving the parents of a 15-year-old girl who received financial support in exchange for consenting to their daughter maintaining a sexual relationship with much older men. In one instance, the girl lived with a 50-year-old man in Limón who abandoned the girl after having impregnated her. Later, the girl and her baby began to live with another man, this time 60 years of age. Both relationships occurred under the consent of her parents.

Last year, PANI received 85 complaints involving children and adolescents who became partners of similarly much older men. Read Article
