Peru21.pe reports that the Peruvian Department of Tourism and Environmental Protections announced that the total number of assaults and robberies of foreigners amounts to 133 cases, which is a decrease from previous years. This report includes 79 thefts, 43 robberies, and 11 assaults in the districts of Lima and Callao. Police say they have identified around 30 areas of criminal activity against foreign and domestic visitors. The director of the Department says many foreigners are targeted in the vicinity of Jorge Chaves International Airport due to ignorance of Lima’s street violence and informal taxis. Officials say that criminals use ‘bujiazo’ attacks, when the assailant breaks rear windows and steal foreigner’s belongings. Officials add that women have reported attacks by taxi drivers, including rape. The ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) announces that a new policing plan will be launched in a few months to strengthen security.Read Article
