Lima, Peru: Police Arrest 18 for Disorderly Conduct in Transportation Strike

According to ElComercio.pe police have arrested 18 strikers for disorderly conduct on Wednesday July 13th. Police say they detained the strikers for disrupting traffic and assaulting drivers who were not participating in the strike. In districts like San Juan de Lurigancho, which has thousands of people who work in the center of Lima, there is a shortage of transportation. Officials say the districts of Villa Maria del Triunfo and San Juan de Miraflores are also experiencing transportation problems. Police say 5,000 police are patrolling the streets of Lima in ensure safety during the strike and that no fatalities have been reported. Officials add that in the metropolitan area vandalism has been reported but not in northern Lima.Read Article
