According to Peru21.pe the 25-year project to establish an electric train in Lima will need an 86 million sole subsidy from the government. Officials say that the project headed by President Alan Garcia is scheduled to be operational on July 11th. The government contract states that the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) must subsidize the operation if there is low profitability. Research from the news organization El Comercio reports that the operation has five trains, purchased from Italy, but needs 15 for a profitable service. The investigation finds that two of the five trains for the operation are inoperable. Officials say that there is a demand of 125,000 passengers per day. According to Pro Investment 19 new trains are supposed to arrive in 2013 from Holland. However, the government is trying to make the train operational by the date promised by the outgoing president.Read Article
