Lima, Peru: Merchant Throws Acid At Policemen, Street Traders Upset About Reorganization

According to Peru21.pe a merchant in the commercial center of Lima threw muriatic acid at a group of policemen while the uniforms were attempting to evict the traders from the area in accordance with the Municipality of Lima’s reorganization of street trade. Officials say the Lima mayor, Susan Villaran accompanied the four policemen from the Serenazgo Unit to make an official complaint and receive medical attention. Villaran says the merchants will not be able to intimidate officials enforcing the new mandate calling for reorganization of street merchants. Villaran adds the assailant will suffer consequences. At the time, authorities believed that an officer suffered serious lacerations to one of his eyes, however medical tests were negative.
