Insecurity affecting Latin America development according to U.N. report

Latin America as a region remains affected by the problem of insecurity, a phenomenon that limits its socioeconomic progress, according to a report circulated today by the United Nations Development Program.
The study on 2013-2014 regional human development focuses on threats such as street crime, violence by and against young people, corruption, organized crime, violence against women, and abuse and excesses by representatives of the State, including the police.

In presenting the report, UNDP Administrator Helen Clark said issues of insecurity were crucial, “because without peace, there cannot be development and without development there cannot be lasting peace.” Read Article
