Harrassment of individuals reporting police abuse

Venezuela insists on maintaining a stubborn position against the international human rights bodies, as evidenced by the case of the Barrios family, in Aragua state, central north Venezuela. Members of the Barrios family reported that another relative was unlawfully arrested. The arrest came a few days after the Inter-American Court of Human Rights condemned the Venezuelan State for its inability, or disinterest, to bring to justice the police officers of Aragua state that allegedly killed Benito Barrios in 1998 and six other relatives in subsequent years.
