Guayaquil Ecuador: informal parking guards registering with National Police

An average of 150 vehicles are stolen each month in Guayaquil. This is evidenced by statistics provided by the Observatory of Public Safety Guayaquil (OSCG). Until mid-July this year 964 cars and 303 motorcycles were stolen from different parts of the city, becoming, along with burglary, an offense with the highest incidence during the second quarter (April, May and June) , 2012. To this is added the number of complaints filed daily in the prosecution for theft of accessories, which reports disturbing figures. According OSCG, so far this year a total of 640 articles have been removed, 252 more than those reported during the same period in 2011. In response, the national police force plan called “Vigilante Security,” which aims to register all cars and property guards who do their work informally. Read Article
