Guatemala: prosecutor attacked, seriously injured

The Guatemalan tax Selvin Mendez Rios was seriously wounded in an attack in the department of Quetzaltenango (west) and is in “critical condition” at a hospital, officials said.

A spokesman for the National Civil Police ( PNC ) told reporters that Mendez Rios, 42, head of the Office of the Department of Retalhuleu (southwest), was shot Tuesday night while traveling from the city of Quetzaltenango to his office.

“You have multiple wounds, the most serious is an impact on your face,” the sources said.
