Guatemala, prices of services and goods lowest in three years, January 2012

The pockets of Guatemalans have benefited in January with a slight inflation. According to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) which measures the changes of 440 goods and services, reported that inflation stood at 0.09 percent last month, the lowest since January 2009. According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), the reduction in the price of some of the basic foods such as tomato, onion, sugar, bread and chile pepper explain the behavior of inflation. Otros rubros que tendieron a la baja son el propano y las gasolinas; el INE reportó que la inflación interanual (últimos 12 meses) cerró en 5.44 por ciento. Other items that a downward trend are propane and gasoline, the INE reported that annual inflation (last 12 months) closed at 5.44 percent.
