Guatemala government to purchase arms without bidding process

A year after the abortive purchase of arms that tried to Carlos Menocal, former Minister of Interior, the idea will be taken up by Mauricio Lopez, head of the Interior. At that time (January 2011) Congress stopped the procurement of equipment and ammunition to strengthen the National Civil Police (PNC), a process that identified alleged anomalies in prices.

Now, Lopez Bonilla intends to do the procedure without tender. The plan is to direct negotiation between the state and a producer of weapons. “In bidding to play a lot of information, are challenges and traumatic processes are half also disinformative and too competitive game,” said the Minister.

With this type of purchase Lopez Bonilla explained that there are no intermediaries, no suspicion of percentages favoring someone. Read Article
