Guadalajara, Mexico: Police Arrest Man for Labor Trafficking

On August 4, 2013 El Universal Noticias reported the arrest of Joel García López, accused of exploiting people to sell candy in the Guadalajara metropolitan area. Seven victims from Veracruz and Hidalgo were also rescued during the operation. Police responded to an anonymous tip reporting that the suspect was forcing a woman to sell candy and cigarettes from seven o’clock in the morning to six o’clock in the evening in Zapopan. Police investigators following the case later rescued six other victims being exploited for labor in other parts of the city. Read Article
