Former Colombian governor arrested for homicides and links with paramilitaries

A former governor of the department of Caquetá (southern Colombia) was arrested for his alleged role in the murder of two teachers and links to paramilitary groups, prosecutors said Wednesday. Medina Germain Triviño (governor from 2010 to 2011) “is identified as allegedly responsible for the deaths of two teachers,” said Attorney in a statement. The agency also investigates claims of members of paramilitary organizations Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC) that relate to Medina Triviño “illegal armed groups in the department of Huila” (south), the statement said, without elaborating.
