Former Brazilian Environmental Minister Launches New Political Party

On February 27, 2013, Terra reported that Marina Silva, former Environment Minister, has established her own political party at a registration office in Brasília.  She also served from 1995 to 2011 as a Federal Senator from the state of Acre.  The new political party, Rede Sustentabilidade, by law needs 500,000 signatures before it can be formally registered as a party.  She declared the party to be a association of concerned citizens determined to end the monopoly that political parties enjoy in federal politics, and to improve the quality of democracy in Brazil.  Read Article
