On February 25, 2013, G1 reported that officers with the Brazilian National Security Force are teaming up with the National Environmental Institute to launch Operation Green Wave (Onda Verde), with the objective to curb illegal deforestation practices in the rainforest.  Units will be concentrated in two cities in the state of Mato Grosso:  Juina and Sinop.  Both cities are located over 500 kilometers from Cuiabá, the capital.  From those bases, at least 180 units will be deployed to monitor operations in the states of Mato Grosso, Pará, Amazonas, and Rondônia, all with significant rainforest populations.  As of the beginning of Onda Verde, more than 70 cubic meters of illegal trees have been seized.  Read Article
