Ecuador’s government minimizes impact of import license fees for vehicles

The official response to the automotive concern about the impact of the licensing regime came yesterday through the Coordinating Minister of Production, Nathalie Cely, and Industry, Verónica Sion. Both officials denied a negative impact as reported in this week’s associations. On Monday, Clemente Ponce, executive director of the Automotive Business Association of Ecuador (SFDA), said the possible closure of some ten companies representing various brands of vehicles, which are barred from continuing to import. “They are running out and their stock and will have no choice but to close their businesses and consequently dismiss employees as well, which is more serious,” the businessman said in an interview with ETV Telerama.
