Ecuador’s Amazon forest under extreme threat from logging, oil, and mining

It is considered the shelter of one of the greatest biodiversity on the planet and the last two people in voluntary isolation: the Tagaeri and taromenane. Today we remember the Day of the Ecuadorian Amazon. However, this area is surrounded by conflicts and risks to species and native populations. According to its proponents, timber traffic and biogenetic resources, oil and mining operations are its biggest threats. The atlas Amazon under pressure, released in late 2012, reveals that Ecuador is the country with the largest area of oil blocks in operation, with 21% of its Amazon territory. Read Article
