Ecuador: Various Government Pages Shutdown, Anonymous Overloads Servers

According to ElComercio.com Anonymous overloaded servers providing service to various government websites, causing them to shutdown or function with large difficulty on Wednesday August 10th. Anonymous has threatened the Ecuadorian government via Twitter and Facebook, of a cyber attack in the future. Authorities say the websites under went a Denial of Service attack (DDOS) which caused them to slow or shutdown due to the number of server requests made for the specific website. The websites that were affected were the President’s, the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Municipality of Quito websites. On Twitter, Operation Condor Libre sent messages of minute-to-minute updates of the attack. Around 11 a.m. information was leaked onto the web from the Telecommunications ministry and later personal information was released about Quiport representatives.
