Ecuador spent $110 million in 2011 for judicial reform

Ecuador has invested $ 110 million in the process of justice reform started six months ago, in the framework of which were completed 1.7 million pending cases, said the body in charge of restructuring.
This amount represents 94% of the amount allocated for 2011, within a total budget of nearly $ 596 million to be executed before 2014, said Paul Rodriguez, president of the Judicial Council of Transition (CJ), told a press. The CJ is at the forefront of reform promoted by the socialist President Rafael Correa, and approved by referendum in May, to modernize the sector and to combat impunity, while the opposition says the president’s goal is to control justice.
