Ecuador: report states poverty numbers down 3.1 percent

TELEGRAFO.COM.EC REPORTED The report ‘Social view’ of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) shows that poverty in Latin America ‘slightly’ decreased by 0.3 percentage points in 2013 compared to last year.

Currently there are 164 million inhabitants with limited resources, similar to 2012 figure. In Ecuador, according to the ECLAC, the poverty decreased by 3.1 percentage points. In 2011 the indicator was 35.3 percent and in 2012, 32.2% of Ecuadorians are poor, as Victorina and her husband.

For the researchers of the report, the results are linked to the region’s macroeconomic performance. Despite the moderate growth of the economy, occupancy increased as a result of the creation of jobs. The purchasing power of average wages also remained. Read Article
