Ecuador: Report of at least 18 deaths in conflict between Waorani and Taromenane

An Indian attack against an Aboriginal clan in voluntary isolation in the Amazon occurred, left at least 18 dead, said Thursday the native leader Gilberto Nenquimo. “After consultation with a person who participated in the attack, I have information that there are 18 dead, men and older women without children also died,” said Nenquimo from Puyo. The vice president of the Waorani of Ecuador (NAWE) added that his source, who spoke on the phone, “participated in the attack on the Taromenane midnight Friday and could not tell the children killed by fear” after the attack.
