Ecuador, Peru to begin study of potential oil development in Amazon

lahora.com.ec reported the Governments of Ecuador and Peru will hire a study to determine the potential development of an oil-border area in the Amazon, the Ecuadorian Ministry of non-renewable natural resources said yesterday. The announcement was made as part of ‘Binational workshop’ which brings together since yesterday Thursday to energy authorities of the two countries on Baltra Island, in the Galápagos archipelago, thousand kilometers to the West of the continental coast of Ecuador. At that appointment, the Ecuadorian Minister of natural resources not renewable, Pedro Merizalde, and his Peruvian colleague of energy and mines, Eleodoro Mayorga, agreed to hire the study to determine the development of the so-called ‘block 86’, in Ecuador, and the ‘lot 192’, in Peru, both located in the Amazon border.
