Ecuador: Pay-TV continues to grow number of subscribers

Pay-TV in Ecuador reached 850 thousand subscribers in July of this year, according to the last report of the Superintendency of Telecommunications (Supertel). It grew by 5.43% in relation to the first quarter.

“Penetration of the service has grown continuously, moving from 5.8& in the year 2003 to 20.64% currently”, reported Supertel. The biggest growth was registered during the last four years, since in 2009 Ecuador only had 252 thousand users and had 7.58% of penetration.

According to the report, satellite TV has more subscribers (46.8) than cable TV (44.9%), MMDS is well behind with barely 8.2%. LARGEST MARKETS: Pichincha, Guayas, Manabí, El Oro and Azuay which span 74% of the total number of subscribers.
