In Ecuador the last case of measles was in 1996, but in April 2011 the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) issued a measles epidemic alert due to other countries experiencing outbreak. The campaign will be nationwide. For travelers that are leaving Ecuador, vaccinations will only be available in the cities of Quito, Centros de Salud No. 1 and 2, and Guayaquil, Direccion Provincial de Salud 15 days prior to travel. The ministry calls on people to be very cleanly and wash hands to prevent germs. Children should be vaccinated with MMR between 12 and 23 months.
