Ecuador: Gang Dismantled, Stealing 40,000 dollars a week via Cloning machines at ATMS

Eluniverso.com reported that a gang with Colombian nationals has been dismantled by authorities using cloning devices to steal money from ATM’s in Quito. Prosecutors reported that five people were detained who averaged 40 thousand dollars a week in thefts. Four houses were raided where 200 credit and debit cards were confiscated. The culprits used a skimmer placed in ATMs to obtain information from the magnetic strip on the cards. A small camera recorded the passwords. The criminals then would make a new card with the victim’s data and then use the password to steal money from the customers account. Read Article
