Ecuador, digital tv being studied

The Ecuadorian government is studying the implications of moving from analog to Japanese/Brazilian digital technology, a process that will take about 10 years, Superintendent of Telecommunications Fabian Jaramillo said. The details depend on a report to be provided on Friday by a commission on system analysis to the National Telecommunications Council, and the master plan finally approved will define exactly when Ecuador will turn off analog TV. Jaramillo told the Andes news agency that the move to a digital format means that people would have to remove antennas from their roofs of the houses, because they would saturate the signal.
