Ecuador debates legalization of transgenic seeds, crops

Four years after its ban, GMOs have become the debate in Ecuador from the hand of the president and candidate for reelection Rafael Correa, who changed his position and now raises him to quadruple legalize as agricultural production and alleviate poverty. The Constitution of a socialist driven Correa, passed in 2008, declared the country “free of transgenic crops and seeds.” For César Paz y Mino, dean of the Institute of Biomedical Research of the University of the Americas (UDLA) of Quito, the ban on genetically modified seeds represents a negative limit to science.
