Ecuador: Correa prepares for a new term with more power than ever

elpais.com reported that on the streets of the capital of Ecuador is not much atmosphere breathes elections. And yet, within a couple of days a man can become the leader who has accumulated more power in recent decades. On Thursday closed an election campaign in which the pace of the topics under discussion and, above all, a debate was not held by the same person who won the 2006 elections, prompting a new constitution in 2008, retained the office in 2009 and whom polls show as a favorite in Sunday’s presidential. Rafael Correa, the economist of 49 who came to power talking of “citizens’ revolution” is in most polls over 35 percentage point lead over the second of the seven other candidates, Opus Dei exbanquero Guillermo Lasso.
