Ecuador: Correa calls on country to fight poverty, strenghthen sovereignty

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, the winner of the presidential elections for the 2013-2017 period, has called on his compatriots ‘with clean hands, lucid minds and patriotic hearts to work together to achieve the country’s great national goals. In a statement released Tuesday evening, President Correa called on his people to fight against poverty and strengthen sovereignty. He said: “True democratic opposition will be welcome, with ability and good faith, to present alternatives that allow us to engage in fruitful debates, with solid arguments aimed at achieving our great national goals. It must be an opposition that illuminates us, that evaluates us and points out our mistakes, not through selfish tricks or malicious falsehoods. The opposition must abandon lies,” Correa stressed.
