Ecuador: Central Sierra under heavy rain alert February 5, 2013

The fire departments of the mountainous region of Ecuador are on alert because of rains late on Tuesday, February 5. But still No recorded landslides or flooding on roads in the subtropics precincts of the provinces of Cotopaxi and Bolivar. The pathways connecting with Riobamba Ambato, Baños de Agua Santa, Latacunga and Guaranda are in good condition. Police advised drivers to not move too fast. The route follows Baños-Penipe closed for repairs and mudslides caused by the removal of volcanic ash accumulated on the flanks of the colossus. The Tungurahua volcano is in moderate activity, according to the Geophysical Institute. Read Article
