ElUniverso.com reports that runway and air terminal operations at Camilo Ponce Enrique in Catamayo will be closed in February 2012 for repair work. The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works has meet with the director general of Civil Aviation to coordinate repair works that include the reconstruction of terminal buildings, control tower, and repairing the runway and perimeter fences. The project will increase the space for public shopping for passengers by early August. Officials are recommending that travelers use the airport in Cuenca, three hours away from Loja. The Santa Rosa airport is not a good choice, officials say since the road to reach Loja will be under construction. Airlines have not released their plans for the closure of the Catamayo Airport and disruption of daily flights.Read Article
