Ecuador: Basic Monthly Cost of Food Basket for family in August is $689

Ecuador registered an inflation rate of -0.16% in August, according to the latest report by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

eldiario.ec reported the study was published by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC).
Accumulated inflation from January to August reached 1.04%, while the annual August 2015 to August 2016 reached 1.4%, INEC said in a statement.
According to the INEC, among the areas with greatest impact on inflation include food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.0877%), clothing and footwear (-0.0423%) and transport (-0.0308%) , among others.
The report of the INEC were taken into account nine cities: Manta, Ambato, Santo Domingo, Loja, Quito, Machala, Esmeraldas, Cuenca and Guayaquil.
Of these cities only Guayaquil had a positive variation with 0.01%. In other cases ranged from -0.03% (Cuenca) and -0.63% (Manta).

It is the second consecutive month this year that results in a negative variation. In July 2016 was -0.09%.
In relation to the basic family basket the study reveals that the price reached $ 689.
The research also reveals that Cuenca, Quito, Loja and Manta were the most costly when considering the cost of the basic food basket cities. Read Article
