Ecuador: Anti-mining protests continue with march through Cuenca

Thousands of people gathered at an event organized by the Prefecture of Azuay Citizen and Government Fair Basin, called bastion of citizen revolution, was the scene where the opposition yesterday brought thousands to the streets to support the motion that the CONAIE and other social organizations began in Zamora Chinchipe March 8 to protest against mining large scale. The protest filled more than 10 blocks at times. With a cloudy sky, town bands songs and dance authorities began the walk through the “Defense of water, life and dignity of the people” called by the prefect of Azuay, Paul Carrasco. The march left the circle of the Chola Cuencana, streets and Sangurima Huaynacapac, the Civic Plaza. Read Article
