Ecuador: 911 system reports 146 deaths over Christmas period December 24 – January 1, 2014

cre.com.ec reported that the integrated security ECU 911 service reported that during the Christmas and new year holiday, which began on December 24, 2013 and culminated on January 1, 2014, coordinated 87.618 emergency care. These data correspond to the information provided by the eight centres of SIS covering 14 provinces of the country.

According to the report, a total of 146 people died during the holiday due to many causes, from car accidents to terminal illnesses.

Total attended emergencies, 8.924 – 50 per cent-were helped by the national police; 3,067 by health (MSP, Red Cross); 1.283 were incidents of transit; 500 were helped by firefighters; 402 by forces armed; 518 by municipal services and four by risk management.

ECU 911 Quito Center was the highest number of fatalities reported: 72. While that of Samborondón reported 24 dead; from Ambato 6; Machala 13; Portoviejo 7; Santo Domingo 9; 15 Esmeraldas.

At the national level, ECU 911 had 568 operators and dispatchers for emergency care, while the staff of the integrated institutions became 8.547. During the holidays was dispatched 3,692 resources (ambulances, police cars, motorcycles, boats, among others) for all the provinces and cantons which covers SIS ECU 911. Read Article
