Ecuador: 55 financial institutions have cellphone blocking technology within their establishments

Eltiempo.com.ec reported that a total of 55 financial institutions in the country have complied with the provision of the National Telecommunications Council to install antennas inhibiting cell phone signal in all entities of the National Financial System.
According to information from the National Telecommunications Secretariat, Senatel, 737 computers were installed inhibitors are 22 banks, 26 cooperatives, mutuals three, three public financial institutions and a financial company. The devices are installed in areas where transactions are carried out by financial institutions. Inhibitors block the mobile phone signal within agencies to deter theft, as according to the security personnel Mutualista Pichincha, criminals use calls to report the movements and transactions by customers.
