On February 20, 2013, iBahia produced a report through the research agency Imazon, which points out that deforestation rates rose 6% last year throughout Brazil. The degradation of the forest accounts for the equivalent of 1 million tons of foregone carbon dioxide consumption. The report also gave some figures for January: the majority of deforestation took place in Mato Grosso (63%), followed by Amazonas, Pará, Roraima and Rondônia. Deforestation over the past five months also represents a 118% increase in the rate observed in the same five months last year. The full report in Portuguese is available on the website.  Read Article
