Cuenca Ecuador: study reveals shortage of green areas for residents

A study by the Ecuadorian Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) as a result left in this city there are few green spaces that can take advantage of the population. The results of the study show that there are 2.08 meters square basin per capita, “which means a shortage of green spaces in the city,” said Oswaldo Ullaguari, provincial director of INEC in the Azuay. The study determines the green index, calculated as the area occupied by parks and plazas in urban areas, divided by the total population of the city. Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the average should be between 10 and 15 m2 of green area per inhabitant. Read Article
