Cuban Blogger Lands in Brazil, Faces Protests from Pro-Castro Demonstrators

On February 18, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that Yoani Sánchez, famous anti-Castro blogger and columnist for the Estado, encountered numerous protest groups upon landing in Salvador da Bahia this morning. Off of the airplane, she encountered pro-Castro forces blocking her path to speak with reporters and the media. Earlier during her stay, in Recife, she also faced more protesters throwing dollar bills at her, accusing her of being a “mercenary,” paid off by American interests. Sánchez is on a professional visit granted by the Cuban government, and she acknowledged the democratic values of the protesters, in spite of the disturbance.  Read Article
