Crisis in Ecuador during 1999 -2000

Historically, Ecuador is a country with great social inequality, low human capital development, large gaps in institutional development, underdeveloped economy and a strong political instability. Proof of this is the low labor force, which by 2004 was 5,554 thousand inhabitants and a GDP annual rate of variation of 3.3%. It also has an urban unemployment rate of 11.0% and an illiteracy rate of 7.8% in 2002 [CEPAL Statistical Yearbook, 2002]. Read Article
