Courts in São Paulo, Brazil, Eliminate Living Allowance for 94 State Deputies

On February 1, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that state courts have halted monthly payments of R$2,250 to state deputies in the State of São Paulo, citing a lack of regulation and monitoring of the funds.  Some deputies received the allowance in spite of only living just a neighborhood or two away from the legislature, located in the neighborhood of Ibirapuera.  The measure is expected to save R$2.5 million from the annual state budget per year.  Read Article
