Couple arrested during crackdown on Chile-Bolivia trafficking schemes

A couple was arrested after police in Chile cracked down on areas known to routinely see illegal merchandise trafficking, especially between Chile and Bolivia. The two were found near the village of Chiu Chiu, where officials observed a vehicle that had turned off its lights for an extended period of time. The occupants loaded the vehicle with packages before attempting to continue to Calama, Chile, La Estrella del Oriente reports. It was then that police arrested the driver, identified as P.C.O.L. (24), and a woman, R.A.B.T. (23). The man was reported to have a criminal history of robbery and theft. The two were caught with 25 packages of drugs, including cocaine and marijuana. They were also transporting a gun, bullets, cell phones, and cash. The gun was of Bolivian origin. Read Article
