Controversial Evangelical Pastor in Brazil Poised to Head Human Rights Commission

On March 1, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the Christian Social Party (PSC), poised to head the Brazilian government’s Human Rights Commission, will nominate evangelical pastor Marco Feliciano to head the corpus.  Feliciano has faced criticism in the past for making derogatory comments towards homosexuals and blacks.  The PSC serves as part of the governing coalition with the Workers’ Party (PT).  The nomination has already upset several members of the Chamber of Deputies, including Jean Wyllys (PSOL-SP), called the development “scary, and referred to Feliciano as a “homophobe.”  Read Article
